Writing a great first message

Your first message sets the tone. Here's what works:

Do Don't
Reference details from their request Send a generic copy-paste message
Explain how you can solve their specific problem Focus only on your credentials
Keep it concise and friendly Write an essay
Include a call to action — suggest a call or next step Leave them unsure of what to do next
💡 Professionals with complete profiles convert more leads — customers check your profile before responding.

Following up

If the customer doesn't respond straight away, don't give up. Space out your follow-ups across different channels and times — the second or third touchpoint often lands when the first didn't.
