Understanding and handling unresponsive leads

Not every lead will respond straight away — and that's a normal part of working with Bark. This article explains why it happens and what you can do about it.

What is a lead?

A lead is a potential customer who has expressed interest in a service. A lead is not a guaranteed job — it's an opportunity to reach out, pitch your services, and convert their interest into work.

Why do leads go quiet?

  • They're exploring multiple professionals at once
  • Their circumstances or priorities have changed
  • They enquired without an immediate intent to act

What Bark does to help

  • Verifies contact details to ensure leads are authentic
  • Sends email and SMS reminders to encourage responses
  • Prompts lead to provide accurate information upfront

Credit return policy

Unresponsive leads are not covered by our credit return policy. This is because leads are verified for accuracy before reaching you, and non-responsiveness is typically down to consumer behaviour, not lead validity.

Tips for converting unresponsive leads

1. Respond fast. Reach out as soon as you receive a lead. Speed increases your chances of being first.

2. Personalise your message. Avoid generic templates. Reference details from their inquiry and explain how you can solve their specific problem.

3. Use multiple channels. If a lead doesn't respond to one method, try another — email, SMS, or a phone call.

4. Space out your follow-ups. Don't overwhelm leads. A few well-timed follow-ups across different channels work better than repeated messages on one channel.

5. Time it right. For consumer leads, evenings and weekends often get better response rates. For business leads, stick to business hours.

6. Build trust Include links to your reviews or examples of your work. Professionals with strong profiles convert more leads.

7. Give them an easy out. Sometimes a simple message works: "If you've already found someone, just let me know so I can update my records." This often prompts a response.
